I got an email yesterday announcing that the sportsbook at the Gold Strike was opening tomorrow August 1st 2018. I'm looking forward to betting on the NASCAR race there this weekend.

When I was at Sam's Town a few weeks ago, I heard that they were converting the former Keno lounge and VP/slot haven that has been the Magnolia Room the last several years to their sportsbook. Unfortunately, I didn't see any evidence that work has started.

Hopefully this will inject some more life back into the Tunica casinos.

I believe most all the casinos are opening a sports book. CET is a little behind, they just put up a job posting for Horseshoe about it yesterday. Sports betting may hopefully bring a little of the tourism business from Memphis for a day trip.

I kind of hope they bring back the Keno too in the area. Boring, but a way to slow the losing down occasionally.

Sportsbook at the Gold Strike was a bust. It was a small little area between Pickles and Jam and the Mlife Players Club. Just a place to make a bet and nothing else.

On the other hand, the book at Sam's Town was excellent. They did a great job. The chairs are really nice and it was refreshing to experience that new room smell at Sam's Town for the first time in a long time. There are few slot machines up there and free Cokes. The old escalators aren't working yet, but I have no double they'll get them running soon. The folks that work there are real proud of it and they should be. I'm not sure of Jeff Link's title up there, but he was a real hard working host and seems thrilled about the Sportsbook.

Treblehook, is it in the same location where the old 2nd floor casino was, with the Keno when they had it?

There was a little creative sheetrock work, but essentially yes.....almost.

They reopened the old bathrooms and it stretches to where the poker room used to be to include the elevator. They removed the machines on the first floor to expose that elevator entrance as well. I believe they had that sheetrocked off because I had forgotten about it and never noticed it behind those slots before after the second floor was closed.

My bearings might be off, but the bar is on the east wall. They have some Game Kings, but no video poker🙁 and no comped drinks 🙁🙁 but there's a free fountain right next to it 😀. Then it stretches west to line up to the elevator. So it stops quite a bit short of the old keno room, even short of the old double doors to the second floor atrium.

They blew away the effort from Gold Strike and their odds were much better from what I could see.

I did hear rumors GS was planning to move theirs to where Atrium is now. Interesting thought. I guess we'll see!

I've heard that also. The employees have said that the Atrium cafe will be downsized to accommodate the Sportsbook. I haven't seen the Atrium very busy in a long time so it wouldn't really surprise me if they did away with it altogether.

Me, either. The Atrium used to be open all the time and was a great place to have breakfast. Food was pretty good there. The last time I ate there it was not very impressive IMO. They made it "fancier", but the food was substandard. It's too bad.

I agree with you. My two favorite places to eat used to be The Atrium at Gold Strike and the coffee shop at Fitzgerald's which is gone. Then there was the Paula Deen buffet at The Grand (I think.) I only had the opportunity once, but it was like Heaven.
