Re: Fitz

Interesting. I'm excited to see it, but I probably won't make it until around Christmas time. Any investment in a Tunica casino besides Gold Strike or Horseshoe seems good on the surface. With Fitzgerald's history of being the first Tunica resort to flood, sounds a little like maybe Majestic is look...

Re: Memorial weekend - 4 nights in 4 different hotels

I had heard that some of the Katrina refugees were pretty rough on every hotel that was gracious enough to take them in, what a shame. I'd also heard that they closed that tower shortly after the refugees left. I'm sure you have it on good authority that it's full of rats and snakes, so I'll take yo...

Re: Memorial weekend - 4 nights in 4 different hotels

Thanks for the information Brian, I had no idea that both Resorts and Bally's/1st JP had problems with the barges. It sounds like barge problems were the deciding factor in closing Roadhouse also. I hope someone finally walked out of Resorts a winner on June 30th. I was surprised and impressed that ...

Re: Memorial weekend - 4 nights in 4 different hotels

I haven't gotten the MyChoice card from HW yet, but I did receive a mailer from them yesterday for 3 free nights at M Resort or Tropicana in Vegas w $300 dining credit and $120 in free play. I'm thinking about taking them up on it and staying at The M during the National Finals Rodeo in December. I ...

Memorial weekend - 4 nights in 4 different hotels

This trip report is a little late, but I was wondering if Resorts went out with a bang or a whimper. Night one: I booked Hollywood for Friday night with my host who works out of St Louis but is really helpful for Tunica. Fairbanks was absolutely great as usual. Incredible filet and incomparable serv...

Re: Resorts Tunica closing

The writing was on the wall here for awhile. From what I saw, Penn National did nothing after it bought Resorts. It's always seemed boring and lifeless to me and they didn't change a thing. At least they demolished the hotel at Bally's instead of everyone having to see a failed hotel on the way to t...

Penn National (Hollywood, 1st Jackpot, and Resorts) switching to mychoice

One of the unexpected (at least for me) changes that have resulted from the Penn National/Boyd acquisition of pinnacle gaming and the horse trading that followed is replacing Marquee Rewards with mychoice. Lynn, you asked about checking comps at Hollywood for April. I would check to see how much you ...

Fitz closing temporarily due to flooding 3/3/2019

https://wreg.com/2019/03/06/mississippi-river-at-tunica-crests-fitz-casino-remains-closed/ Bad news for the Fitz. Seems like they're always the first to affected by flooding. At least there's no flooding at the casino or hotel and hopefully they'll be able to re-open tomorrow. The video poker condit...

Re: One last party at the Roadhouse + quick visits to other casinos

I kinda liked the Roadhouse branding, but I had a lot more fun there when it was fully functioning as The Sheraton. I spent a lot of time on the second floor when it was open. Oh well, c'est la vie. At least the best part of the property is gonna carry on. One last comment on Roadhouse is that they ...

One last party at the Roadhouse + quick visits to other casinos

I posted this on VMB originally: The former Sheraton, current Roadhouse went out with a bang last Saturday night. They gave away bottles of Gentleman Jack w the Roadhouse emblem, had a big variety of free food and drink, and gave away $60k in cash through drawings. About half of the casino was opera...

Re: Picture report

If I'd have ever eaten at the Horseshoe buffet, it would have been back in the mid 2000's and I don't remember it. So I was pretty excited to try it when CET sent me a comp. Everything was either bland or odd-flavored. I guess my favorite thing was the cornbread with the light frosting. The Pepsi ma...

Re: Picture report

Those are some nice hits!

Hopefully next time you end up in the black.

I had the Horseshoe buffet last week for the first time. I'm glad it was comped and that's the nicest thing I can say about it. On the other hand, the Gold Strike breakfast buffet continues to be excellent.

Re: sports book opening at the Gold Strike Aug 1 2018

I agree with you. My two favorite places to eat used to be The Atrium at Gold Strike and the coffee shop at Fitzgerald's which is gone. Then there was the Paula Deen buffet at The Grand (I think.) I only had the opportunity once, but it was like Heaven.

Re: sports book opening at the Gold Strike Aug 1 2018

I've heard that also. The employees have said that the Atrium cafe will be downsized to accommodate the Sportsbook. I haven't seen the Atrium very busy in a long time so it wouldn't really surprise me if they did away with it altogether.

Re: sports book opening at the Gold Strike Aug 1 2018

There was a little creative sheetrock work, but essentially yes.....almost. They reopened the old bathrooms and it stretches to where the poker room used to be to include the elevator. They removed the machines on the first floor to expose that elevator entrance as well. I believe they had that shee...

Re: sports book opening at the Gold Strike Aug 1 2018

Sportsbook at the Gold Strike was a bust. It was a small little area between Pickles and Jam and the Mlife Players Club. Just a place to make a bet and nothing else. On the other hand, the book at Sam's Town was excellent. They did a great job. The chairs are really nice and it was refreshing to exp...

sports book opening at the Gold Strike Aug 1 2018

I got an email yesterday announcing that the sportsbook at the Gold Strike was opening tomorrow August 1st 2018. I'm looking forward to betting on the NASCAR race there this weekend. When I was at Sam's Town a few weeks ago, I heard that they were converting the former Keno lounge and VP/slot haven ...
